Tutoring #9.5-10 - Dojun Kim (1.5 hour/90 minutes)

On June 26th, at the beginning of my final tutoring session with Dojun Kim, he discussed how the past weekend he went to a shopping mall with his nephew. I was surprised to learn that some malls in South Korea have the same food court businesses as those in the United States such as Auntie Anne's. For the rest of the session, I taught him informal American contractions. I would first state the contraction and then have him state the original words and then make a sentence with them. He was quickly able to understand the patterns of the contractions and correctly create sentences with them. I explained how the contraction c'mon can also be used as an expression of exasperation. I told him about how some contractions are used as catchphrases such as "I oughta slug you" from Charlie Brown and "whatcha doin" from Phineas and Ferb. I also introduced him to the food s'mores and came up with a phrase for him to remember a contraction with the phrase "I want s'more s'mores." As he described to me nuclear-polluted water issues in South Korea I told him how advanced his vocabulary is.
