Tutoring #8 - Ruth

I always enjoy my tutoring sessions with Ruth because I can sense her eagerness to learn - she always wants to get down to business and immediately starts asking questions. With her final exams coming up, she had a few big concept grammar questions that we started working on. The future perfect and future perfect continuous tense gave her some issues because of how differently Spanish grammar is formatted. She was confused if the time clause before the comma, for example, the sentence "By next Friday, I will have finished my final exams", occurred before or after the second clause, after the comma. It helped a lot to be able to visualize the timeline of events, so I drew it out for her on a timeline. Once we ran through a few more example sentences, and I had her practice writing some out, and explaining the sentence to me, it all became clear. This was extremely rewarding for me, as a tutor, because I could see the " breakthrough" look of happiness on her face - which was awesome! We are going to continue working on both the future perfect and future perfect continuous until her exams next week!!
