Tutoring #6 - Dojun Kim (1 hour)
On June 13, I tested Dojun Kim's pronunciation skills. I tested him on the common words and sounds that people from South Korea make mistakes with. I was impressed to find that he successfully pronounced every word and phrase with ease. I then did a listening exercise with Dojun Kim. I had him read the first chapter of The Little Prince. I would read it to him paragraph by paragraph without providing him with the reading material. After every paragraph, I would stop to ask for any questions. In order to check his comprehension I would repeat an advanced word or phrase and define it. If he was unable to correctly define it I would explain it to him in more detail. Before moving on to the next paragraph, I would ask him comprehension questions. Before giving him the answers to the comprehension questions I would first refer back to parts of the text that contained the answer within it. He mostly struggled with words about animals such as "boa constrictor," as well as "park," and "sticky."
