Sujin just returned from a short trip to Charleston, South Carolina with her family over the weekend. She relayed to me an incident that happened with one of the hotels she had booked and with Agoda, which is a third-party website similar to Expedia. Agoda promises a "price match" guarantee but only up to 72 hours from the check-in date. She noticed 2 days before her check-in that the price on Agoda had decreased by more than half what she paid for it, and she became understandably upset and she felt she was "ripped off." After being unsatisfied with the way that the staff of the hotel and Agoda handled it, and given that she has a Ph.D. in marketing and has published multiple research articles, she is going to write a research article based on her experience. She wants to investigate this "price match" marketing strategy and how companies manipulate the price.
