TS #5 Aaron Choi
I met with Aaron Thursday, and we discussed the simple past tense with a focus on irregulars. I utilized the scaffolding technique by first providing Aaron with fill-in-the-blank style sentences with missing verbs and then had him construct his own sentences. I corrected Aaron's grammar as needed and tried to explain the verb tenses he was using to help him to understand the simple past more thoroughly. One thing I learned from this tutoring session is the importance of teaching level-appropriate content, additionally the importance of focusing your lessons, and being comfortable explaining grammar concepts. I spent a decent portion of the class trying to explain the past participle to Aaron which was ineffective and looking back I should have just reoriented my lesson on the simple past.
