Class Observation #4 Dr.Felicia

I observed Dr.Felicia's grammar class a while back, but forgot my blog post - oops! I always love going to Dr.Felicia's classes because I can tell how much thought and energy she puts into every lesson. She walks in the room with positive vibes and I can tell it makes her students so comfortable to be there and ready to learn whatever she has planned for the day. I asked Dr. Felicia what her typical format is for her lessons and she told me that she has a solid system down, accompanied by the textbook she uses. The format that we have been taught in TEFL is schema building (pre-lesson), activity (lesson), and evaluation (post-lesson) is very similar to the one she uses, almost identical actually! It was cool to see that the format we learned in class was being used in real time with real English teachers. The biggest takeaway from this class was the use of modeling. Whenever Dr Felicia would explain a concept, she would make sure to write it on the board and demonstrate the concept before asking her students to do so. By modeling and keeping these examples on the board, the students had a good touch point to go back and look at as they completed their activity!
