Tutoring #3 - Fatima
Monday I had my first tutoring session with Fatima, who is around my age from Saudi Arabia. I was so eager for this session because I find middle eastern culture very fascinating, as it is so different from my own in America. We started the session by getting to know each other so that she would trust me as a teacher and also a friend! She told me all about her family who she moved with to America; Her husband is studying electrical engineering in the States and she also has two daughters - one 5 and one 2 years old. She told me that she will probably have 4 more kids, as middle eastern families are very big with lots of children. She was shocked when I told her I didn't want to get married or have kids until I'm 30 - saying "you won't be able to have kids then - you'll be too old!!" - I thought this was really funny, and showed just how different our two cultures are. She told me that speaking is her weakest subject and that this is her requested area for tutoring. When she goes to the doctor, she finds it hard to speak with them about her symptoms and answer medical questions, so that will be our topic for our next tutoring session. I think this will be a very beneficial topic because you definitely don't want to get medical questions wrong! Overall, I really loved Fatima and cant wait for our next session - I think we'll become good friends!!
