TS #3 Ye-won

Today I had my third session with Ye-won. For today's session, we continued reading the book we started the previous week: "Fancy Nancy It's Backward Day". Since it had been about a week since our last meeting, we reviewed what had happened in the first part of the book. I began this by asking if Ye-won remembered what the story was about and when she told me it was about "backward day", I asked her to describe what that meant to me. To briefly review some of the more detailed aspects of the story, we flipped through the parts we had already read and I had her describe what was going on in the pictures to me. These pictures represented some of the "backward day" activities that took place in the book, so it provided a good review as well as a description/speaking exercise. Afterward, we read the second half of the book and I continued to ask vocabulary and comprehension questions as we went. Based on today's session, I felt like her comprehension of the story had improved since the following week. I also noticed that Ye-won is beginning to self-evaluate while she reads. For example, as she was reading a sentence she pronounced "meant" incorrectly. She stopped reading and repeated the word with proper pronunciation before continuing with the sentence. It may be because she is already familiar with the beginning of the story from our last session, but Ye-won seemed to be more comfortable reading than she was in our first two sessions.
