Siena Failla CO #3 (May 9th)
Date/Time: May 9th/10-10:50am
Topic: Future Tense & Irregular Past Tense
Instructor: Olivia James
This grammar class focused on the future tense and the irregular past tense. Auditing this class gave me some insight into how teachers can make grammar more engaging and enjoyable for their students. Grammar is often seen as a necessary evil by students, so it is the instructor's job to generate interest in the subject for their students. The students made cards with various irregular verbs in the past tense. During this class, the students were split into pairs and combined their decks of irregular verb forms to play "Go Fish". Not only did this make studying irregular past tense verbs more fun, but it also allowed the instructor to introduce a new aspect of American culture since "Go Fish" is such a popular game among kids in the US. This class was the first time that I was able to truly interact with the students and participate in the class. The instructor had me monitoring some of the games, making sure that they understood the rules and helping with pronunciation when needed. I really enjoyed this class and getting to know some of the students. They were a really fun group to work with and it made me more excited for teaching a class of my own when I go abroad.
