First Meeting with Maryna Kozlova
This past Saturday I met with Maryna Kozlova for the first time for about an hour. Most of the tutoring session was just spent getting to know each other. Maryna is a Ukrainian national from the city of Zhytomyr who speaks both Ukrainian and Russian as her native languages. Her command of English is very good, with occasional awkward grammatical constructions and errors. She told me the main skill which she wished to improve was conversational skills. Maryna told me that her husband, also Ukrainian, speaks English as well, but that she doesn't receive as much practice at home as she would like. She was able to express her hobbies, background and interests well, but it took her significant time to express herself and formulate her thoughts. Her listening comprehension though was much better, although one or two idioms I used in conversation confused her. Most of the grammatical errors she made consisted of incorrect verb forms and forgetting the indefinite article.
