Group 2 Speaking with Olivia James
For this observation, I chose to observe a Group 2 Speaking Class. On this day, they were working with their partners for a presentation the following Monday. Each student had to speak for 5 minutes on their partner, such as their background, what they hope to achieve, if they want to transfer to a university and if so, what they want to study, what their future jobs will be, their family, etc. Ms. Olivia was very helpful and interactive with her students whenever they had a question and I could see how much she wanted her students to succeed. A lot of the class is working on speaking skills so group discussions and interactions are very much the key to the class. She mentioned that she also likes to make class fun and creative, one day the previous week, they visited the Claude Pepper Museum and she assessed how students had conversations in the museum. They had been paired in groups and given a list of questions to ask each other which the other students would have to find the information and answer. I sat with two students, Jose and Tidiane, and observed and assisted when they needed on their presentations on each other.
