Ava Alfaro-Barber CO #2 May 9
On
May 8th I observed the Grammar course of Dr. Angel Rios. As students enter the classroom,
he played a modern song in English. He told me that he tries to do an activity
for no more than 10 minutes in order to maintain the attention of the students.
At the beginning of the course, he did ten minutes of review with the class,
then he introduced the new topic, then he went through exercises in the
textbook with the students. Towards the end of the class the students played online
game and then drew their own examples sentences on their own boards and at the
end of class they went through the answer on their boards together. In the course
they reviewed the past simple and the past perfect. They talked about the past
perfect continuous in more detail throughout the class. They reviewed last week’s
example sentences of the past perfect but had the students write their own new
sentences. As they discussed the past perfect, he gave examples of expressions
with which the past perfect is commonly used. As the students played the past
perfect continuous online game, he went around the room to check on the students.
As he went through the lesson with the students and he went around the room to
check on the students progress he showed support and encouragement of the
students.
