Right after my meeting with Khushi, I met with Maryna a second time. Previously, I had asked Maryna to come to me with specific questions if she needed help. This time she came with questions about how to use English verb tenses with modals to form conditional or hypothetical statements. I drafted some common formulas using the modals "could", "would" and "should" as well as if/then statements in combination with different verb tenses on a piece of paper. I then practiced with her with a few examples in each formula. There was one question which she asked about the usage of the past perfect as opposed to the simple past which I could not readily answer at the time. I offered my best guess using the formula which I thought best represented what Maryna was trying to express. She kept the sheet with the formulas and said that she would practice at home with her husband. At the end of the session I conducted the same reading exercise that I did with Khushi using the first two pages of The Righteous Mind.
