Last week I met with Dr. Ciappetta and Musa for a speaking class. Musa was the only student that day, and so Dr. Ciappetta had me conducting an interview activity with Musa. Dr. Ciappetta would write out the names of various faculty- including myself- on a sheet of paper along with their phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses. I would ask Musa various questions about each person, "What is X's email address?" or "What is X's last name?". Sometimes I would switch up the order and format of the questions to increase the difficulty level slightly for Musa: for one name I would ask, "Can you tell me X's first name and then his last name?" and for another ask "Can you tell me X's last name followed by his first name?". To correct errors I used the techniques learned in class, especially clarification requests. Musa is still at a very beginner stage, and he did not always understand the questions which I was asking him. Upon one or two clarification requests though he would tell me the correct answer. He confused the English names of the letters of the alphabet and numbers, which would result in incorrect readings of some email addresses.
